This blog is severely lacking in pictures

It is also severely lacking in pictures of fluffy birds. This adorably poofed up bird has been sitting at my balcony with me for easily the last thirty minutes, presumably basking in the cool morning breeze like I am. It has also been unabashedly staring at me.

I won’t lie, I was slightly concerned in the beginning. Birds can be callous and violent for no reason, after all. Too many bird-related free accidents for me to feel completely at ease.

After about 15 minutes, I realized this bird meant no harm.

And so we bonded. We exchanged life stories, concerns, opinions on current affairs, and hopes and dreams. I poured my heart out to it. And it listened, acknowledging my words with a gentle cock of its head, ruffling its feathers in response to a particularly rousing statement.

Alas, in the words of Nelly Furtado, all good things must come to an end.

Another bird stopped by my balcony, and before I knew it, my friend scuttled after it and they flew away together to seek new adventures.

I won’t lie – my heart hurts. I truly thought I had found a friend for life. But it wasn’t so. That said, I feel honored to have been a part of this bird’s life for even a mere thirty minutes. We had a good run.

Thank you for your words, bird. I will not forget you.
